Beware! This is the most dangerous cake recipe there is. Why? Because you are only ever 5 minutes away from delicious chocolate cake! ![]()
I saw the original of this recipe as posted by ‘St. Olen’ aka ‘Phil Officer’ on the togs site. I have adapted it and present it here for your enjoyment. And note well guys and gals, I accept no blame for anyone ruining their low fat diet plan!
Ingredients:
- 4 tbsps flour (I like to use wholemeal flour but you can use white if you wish)
- 3 tbsps granulated sugar
- 3 tbsps cocoa powder (I like to use Sterns for preference)
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Method:
- In a large mug mix all the dry ingredients together well. Now if you are like me you may find the mug just too awkward for the mixing. In which case use a medium sized (about 20cm diametre) ceramic mixing bowl (I find the original design Pudsey Bear bowl works a treat), instead.
- Beat the egg and add that too, be prepared this will make a bit of a mess (you see why I prefer to use a bowl!)
- Add the milk, oil, and vanilla extract and mix well again. If you are using the mug to mix in, you want to make extra sure there are no dry ‘pockets’ of flour.
- Place the mug in the microwave and do not cover*. If using a ceramic bowl you can put a clingfilm cover on. Now microwave on high for about 2-3 minutes. The cake will puff out over the top of the mug, but not the bowl.
- Allow the cake to cool and then devour! If you are feeling posh you can carefully remove the cake from the mug or bowl and cut into slices.
* Kashrut note: If you do not have a separate microwave for milchig then you must not use the mug method as this will make it milchig. Make sure you use a bowl and cover with clingfilm.

Great, there goes my After-Christmas Diet, along with my masculinity!
What is so unmasculine about making a chocolate cake in a mug? You big silly!
