snow is back

The snow is back! I can see gulls outside diving bombing a bird table! I went to the local shops with a sledge! As you can tell from all the exclamations I am quite surprised Here is the scene at Casa Marge:

Yes folks, only days after planting the apple trees the weather decided to go all wintery. We have snow – big time snow!

New Kitchen

Yay! After many weeks and weeks it is finally over! Yes, the new kitchen at Casa Marge has been completed! The entire room was gutted and refitted and is now all lovely and new, ready for much cooking and baking to be done! I’m going to say it again – yay!

Attack of the cold

Just when you thought it was safe to put make up on … the cold and sore throat you have been so valiantly battling comes back! I’m feeling proper poorly again. It’s not fair *stamps foot*

I do have plenty of new content to add but it will have to wait until this nasty cold virus has gone. Please be patient *plays interlude music*

All I can say is lawks! There has been so much going on in the garden (both outside and the one on the windowsill), that I have had to continually revise my Garden News Updates (GNUs) before being able to post anything.

Suffice it to say I shall post a GNU this week and you will be able to see for yourselves what I am talking about.

Shavuot approaches

Another Shavuot approaches, can you believe it is three years since I posted my first cheesecake recipe? This blog has been going for four years now and I am grateful for all your comments and queries (and a special thank you to my host www.redflamemedia.com).

I realise I don’t always update the blog as often as I should *ahem* but I am trying my best to improve on this and hope to add more content more frequently – famous last words

Anyway today I have been busy making cheesecake and quiches for Yom Tov and thought I would try a different recipe for the base, namely a sweet pastry crust instead of crushed biscuit. It turned out well in the end but I think I should have left the pastry to rest over night instead of just 30 minutes in the fridge!

I found rolling the pastry an impossibility as the mixture was so sticky … and in the end I had to press it into shape in the baking dish by hand!

However all is well and the cheesecake has turned out beautifully, and so on that happy note I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Shavuot

Challah bread

This last week I have been fighting off another bad cold (is there such a thing as a good cold?), anyway today as I was feeling a bit better I agreed to help Retired Father have a go at baking challot (Jewish plaited loaves used on Shabbat and Yom Tov). It is said to be meritorious to bake your own challot and even better when they turn out nice and fluffy

I am not posting the recipe as it is not mine and I can’t take credit for it! However in the future I am sure there will be a Marge Land Challah recipe on this site. In the meantime here are a couple of pics of the finished articles
